Once the reinforcement is in place, to make an Outside Turtle Reef the mould is covered with concrete - here's where you can get creative! This particular Turtle Reef is a bit of a simple one - it has a hole in one side to allow small fish and invertebrates inside to shelter from the elements and/or predators and is covered in bits of coral rubble to provide more surface area and make it easier for coraline algae to colonise. This is the first step in attracting new coral to grow. Multiple holes, sockets to place coral biscuits into, small holes to hold hard coral stems, embedded wire to attach hard coral, different surface textures to test which organisms like what sort of home - the possibilities are endless!
