Lebanon recycles old aircraft, giving the town of Saida's fish population a habitat boost
Divers watch as a decommissioned Cessna aircraft donated by the Lebanese Air force is winched into the sea off the town of Saida in Lebanon, as part of a conservation project to create an artificial reef. They will descend with it to position and secure it on the ocean floor. The sea bed here is barren, so the idea is to provide fish and invertebrates with permanent structures to give them a place to breed and shelter in order to increase fish and marine life stocks for fishing and tourism.
